Growing-Beds & Bioflame form Twinwoods Heat & Power Ltd (THPL)
One of the UK’s largest wood recyclers Growing Beds has signed a joint venture agreement with waste to energy company Bioflame to build a 2.5MW renewable energy power station capable of producing 20,000MW hours per annum. The plant will be located in a disused 1960’s Ministry of Defence research and development building in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire.
Set to supply full electricity to nearly 6500 homes locally, the £7+ million privately funded power station will be built and operated by the newly formed Twinwoods Heat and Power Limited (THPL). Works are due to start on site Q3 this year.
Under the terms of the agreement Bioflame will provide all technology, whilst Growing Beds will supply 30,000 tonne of low-grade waste wood to include MDF, chipboard, plywood, painted wood, laminated wood per annum as feedstock for the facility’s sophisticated clean-burn combustion system.
Operational 24/7, Growing Beds will also be responsible for day-to-day site supervision, whilst maintenance of the plant will be handled by Bioflame. Further information about Bioflame can be found at www.bioflame.com.
Recognised by the Environment Agency, Bioflame’s Best Available Technology (BAT) and Waste Incineration Directive compliant power station is capable of converting waste wood to energy for more than 8,000 hours each year.
Specialist in joint venture operations, Bioflame’s new arrangement with Growing Beds is designed to help maximise value from the company’s long term and abundant supplies of waste wood received on site at its nearby recycling facility in Ravensden, Bedfordshire.
Bedfordshire County Council awarded THPL planning permission for the project in a record 10 weeks.
